Hollister Moderma Flex 22400 is a one-piece closed flat colostomy pouch designed for people with formed or relatively predictable stoma output who prefer a transparent appliance for direct visibility of the stoma and pouch contents.
This Maxi Transparent pouch features Hollister’s flexible SoftFlex™ flat skin barrier with a 15–55mm cut-to-fit opening, allowing the aperture to be prepared to suit the individual size and shape of the stoma.
An integrated AF300™ filter helps manage intestinal gas and odour, while the odour-barrier pouch film and soft ComfortWear™ panel on the body side help provide comfortable and discreet everyday wear.

One-piece closed appliance
Moderma Flex 22400 is a one-piece pouching system.
The pouch and SoftFlex™ adhesive skin barrier are permanently connected.
There is:
-
No separate baseplate
-
No mechanical coupling
-
No separate pouch attachment
When the pouch requires changing, the complete pouch and adhesive barrier are removed together and replaced with a new appliance.
Closed colostomy pouch
Reference 22400 is a closed pouch.
It does not have a drainage outlet at the bottom.
Closed pouches are generally most appropriate where colostomy output is:
-
Formed
-
Semi-formed
-
Less frequent
-
Relatively predictable
When sufficient output has collected, the entire appliance is removed and replaced.
For frequent liquid or semi-liquid output that requires repeated emptying, a drainable pouch may generally be more suitable.
Maxi pouch size
Reference 22400 is a Maxi pouch.
The larger format provides greater collection capacity than the smaller Midi Moderma Flex closed pouch.
Maxi may be preferred where:
-
Greater pouch capacity is required
-
Output volume is higher
-
A larger pouch is more convenient
-
Less frequent pouch replacement is preferred
The pouch should nevertheless be changed before it becomes excessively full or heavy.
Transparent design
Reference 22400 is Transparent.
This allows direct visibility of:
-
The stoma
-
Stoma colour and appearance
-
Stoma output
-
Pouch contents
-
Position of the barrier around the stoma
A transparent pouch may be particularly useful:
-
Following stoma surgery
-
When monitoring a changing stoma
-
When checking appliance positioning
-
When assessing output
-
Where a carer assists with stoma management
-
Where continuous visibility is preferred
Unlike the Beige Moderma Flex options, the pouch contents remain visible during normal wear.
SoftFlex™ skin barrier
Moderma Flex 22400 incorporates Hollister’s SoftFlex™ skin barrier.
SoftFlex™ is a standard-wear flat barrier designed to provide secure adhesion while remaining relatively gentle to the skin.
Hollister specifically describes SoftFlex™ as suitable for the more frequent pouch removal associated with closed pouching systems.
The barrier is designed to:
-
Adhere securely around the stoma
-
Remain flexible during normal body movement
-
Provide comfortable skin contact
-
Support frequent appliance changes
-
Help protect peristomal skin from stoma output
Correct sizing of the stoma opening remains essential.
Flat barrier
Reference 22400 has a flat adhesive profile.
It does not incorporate convexity.
A flat appliance may be suitable where:
-
The stoma protrudes adequately above skin level
-
The surrounding abdominal surface provides a suitable sealing area
-
Significant inward dips are absent
-
Deep folds or creases do not compromise the seal
-
Additional convex support is not required
A flat appliance may not be suitable for every stoma or body profile.
Flush or retracted stomas, deep inward contours or persistent leakage may require assessment for a convex or differently shaped appliance.
15–55mm cut-to-fit opening
Ref 22400 has a 15–55mm cut-to-fit opening.
The opening can be enlarged to fit the measured size and shape of the individual stoma within the manufacturer’s stated cutting range.
A cut-to-fit appliance may be particularly useful where:
-
The stoma does not correspond exactly to a standard pre-cut size
-
The stoma is irregular in shape
-
Stoma dimensions are changing
-
An individually prepared opening is preferred
Do not cut beyond the manufacturer’s stated 55mm maximum.
Choosing the correct opening
Measure the stoma carefully using an appropriate stoma measuring guide.
The finished opening should:
-
Fit closely around the stoma
-
Avoid rubbing against the stoma
-
Avoid constricting it
-
Minimise exposed peristomal skin
-
Follow the actual shape of the stoma where required
An opening that is too large may allow stoma output to reach exposed skin and increase the risk of:
-
Leakage
-
Redness
-
Soreness
-
Skin irritation
-
Moisture damage
-
Reduced adhesive security
An opening that is too small may rub against or constrict the stoma.
AF300™ filter
Moderma Flex 22400 incorporates Hollister’s AF300™ filter.
The filter is designed to provide a gradual release of intestinal gas while helping deodorise the gas as it leaves the pouch.
This can help:
-
Reduce pouch ballooning
-
Manage intestinal gas
-
Control unwanted odour
-
Maintain a flatter pouch profile
-
Improve discretion
The filter is integrated into the pouch.
Do not puncture or modify the pouch filter.
Odour-barrier pouch film
The pouch is manufactured using odour-barrier film.
This helps contain stoma output and minimise the transmission of odour through the pouch material.
The pouch film and AF300™ filter perform complementary functions:
-
The pouch film contains the output
-
The AF300™ filter manages gas leaving the pouch
ComfortWear™ body-side panel
The Transparent Moderma Flex pouch incorporates a ComfortWear™ panel on the body side.
The soft panel sits between the pouch film and the user’s body and is designed to:
-
Improve comfort against the skin
-
Reduce direct contact with pouch film
-
Provide a softer feel
-
Improve everyday wear
Because Ref 22400 is transparent, the outer/front side remains clear so the pouch contents can be viewed.

-
Support the surrounding skin
-
Slowly peel the SoftFlex™ barrier away
-
Avoid rapidly pulling the adhesive from the skin
-
Dispose of the used appliance appropriately
