Nicotinamide Riboside (NR) + Trans-Resveratrol 500mg Capsules
250mg nicotinamide riboside chloride and 250mg trans-resveratrol from Japanese knotweed, in one vegan HPMC capsule. Two ingredients. No fillers, no flow agents, no bulking powders.
One capsule daily. Nicotinamide riboside chloride is an authorised novel food in Great Britain with a maximum intake of 300mg per day. One capsule provides 250mg. Do not take more than one capsule in any 24 hours.
Two Ingredients. Full Strength. Nothing Else.
250mg of nicotinamide riboside chloride and 250mg of trans-resveratrol in every capsule. Both at full declared strength, both named on the label with their CAS numbers and their source, and neither of them hidden inside a proprietary blend.
A 500mg capsule here means 500mg of active. No bulking powder making up the difference, no “complex” doing the heavy lifting on the front of the tub.
Two of the most expensive ingredients in the supplement trade sit in this capsule, which is exactly why so many versions of it are quietly underdosed. The usual trick is a big capsule, an impressive-sounding blend name, and no individual strengths declared anywhere. You cannot tell what you bought and that is the point.
We encapsulate this ourselves in Southend, so we can tell you precisely what went in: two powders, a vegan shell, and nothing else at all. The specification for both ingredients is further down the page, and the certificates are yours for the asking.
Why You Won’t See Health Claims Here
Only around 220 health claims are authorised in Great Britain across every ingredient there is, and neither of these is among them. Getting one authorised takes years and a six-figure budget, and for an ingredient that anyone can buy and sell there is nobody with a commercial reason to fund it. So we let the specification speak for itself.
What is actually in the capsule
| Per capsule | Amount | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| Nicotinamide riboside chloride | 250mg | CAS 23111-00-4. Authorised novel food, maximum 300mg per day. |
| Trans-resveratrol | 250mg | CAS 501-36-0. From Japanese knotweed root (Polygonum cuspidatum), minimum 98% by HPLC. |
| Capsule shell | HPMC | Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose. Vegan, plant-derived. |
| Everything else | None | No magnesium stearate, no rice flour, no maltodextrin, no silica, no anti-caking agents. |
“Nicotinamide riboside chloride” is the legal designation, not a longer way of writing nicotinamide riboside. The authorised novel food is specifically the chloride salt, and that is the wording the law requires on the label. Anyone selling it as plain “nicotinamide riboside” is either using a different material or not labelling it correctly.
Why the resveratrol source matters
Trans-resveratrol can come from three places, and they are not interchangeable in law.
Japanese knotweed — what is in this product. Resveratrol extracted from Polygonum cuspidatum has a history of consumption in food supplements before May 1997, so it is not a novel food. Synthetic trans-resveratrol is an authorised novel food with its own conditions. Microbial trans-resveratrol, from a modified yeast, is authorised with its maximum set by reference to normal knotweed use.
A purified isolate from grape is in none of those categories. Grapes and wine have obviously been consumed for a very long time, but that is a history of consuming grapes, not of consuming a 98% purified extract at supplement doses. If a label says grape-derived purified trans-resveratrol, that is worth a question.

On the PAH testing: knotweed is a root extract, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are a known contaminant risk in botanical extracts where drying involves direct heat. Benzo(a)pyrene and PAH4 are specifically tested on this material. Not every resveratrol certificate includes them, and it is worth asking if one doesn’t.
Certificates of analysis are issued per batch. We will send you the current one for either ingredient on request — just ask.
How to take it
One capsule daily, with food.
That gives you 250mg of nicotinamide riboside chloride, within the 300mg daily maximum set by the Great Britain novel food authorisation, and 250mg of trans-resveratrol.
Do not take two. Two capsules would be 500mg of nicotinamide riboside chloride, which is well over the authorised maximum. The limit is a condition of the authorisation, not a suggestion.
Most people take it in the morning with breakfast. Taking it with food is easier on the stomach, and resveratrol is fat-soluble, so a meal containing some fat is a sensible time for it.
Resveratrol has a genuinely bitter taste. The capsule shell means you will not taste it unless you open one, which we would not recommend.
Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this if any of the following apply
- You take anticoagulant or antiplatelet medication, including warfarin, clopidogrel or regular aspirin
- You are due to have surgery or a dental procedure within the next two weeks
- You take any prescription medication at all, or are under medical supervision
- You have a hormone-sensitive condition
- You have liver or kidney impairment
Not for use by anyone under 18, or by those who are pregnant or breastfeeding. The novel food authorisation sets a lower maximum intake of 230mg per day for nicotinamide riboside chloride during pregnancy and lactation; this product provides 250mg per capsule and is therefore not suitable.

Questions
Why only one capsule a day?
Because nicotinamide riboside chloride is authorised in Great Britain with a maximum intake of 300mg per day, and one capsule provides 250mg. Two would put you at 500mg. The maximum is a condition of the authorisation, so it is not something we are free to be relaxed about.
Is nicotinamide riboside the same as vitamin B3?
They are related compounds, but we do not market this product as a vitamin B3 supplement and we do not use the authorised niacin claims on it. If you want vitamin B3 with its authorised claims, buy a vitamin B3 product.
Why is the resveratrol from knotweed and not grapes?
Because knotweed is the source with an established history of use in food supplements, which is what keeps it outside novel food restrictions. It is also by far the most concentrated practical source. Grape skin naturally contains resveratrol, but a purified 98% isolate from grape is a different thing from a grape, and it has no authorisation.
Can I open the capsule and mix the powder?
You can, but resveratrol is genuinely bitter and most people regret it. If you want the powder loose, buy the powder.
Do you send a certificate of analysis?
Trade orders get one with every order. Retail customers can request one at any time and we will email it. Certificates are per batch, so ask and we will send the one covering the stock you have.
Is this suitable for vegans?
Yes. The capsule shell is HPMC, which is plant-derived, and both actives are non-animal.
How should I store it?
Cool, dry and out of direct light, with the lid on. Both ingredients are light-sensitive and resveratrol oxidises on prolonged exposure to air.
Food supplement. Not a substitute for a varied and balanced diet or a healthy lifestyle. Do not exceed the stated dose of one capsule per day. Keep out of reach of young children. Not suitable for anyone under 18, or for those who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Nothing on this page is a health claim, and nothing here is medical advice. If you are taking medication or under medical supervision, speak to your doctor or pharmacist before use.
