Supporting a Balanced Immune Response
To move beyond symptom suppression, our medical herbalists utilise immunomodulators—herbs traditionally used to help the body return to a state of balance and maintain a healthy immune response during periods of seasonal and environmental challenge.
Baikal Skullcap (Scutellaria baicalensis) is a potent herb traditionally used to support the body when dealing with seasonal sensitivity, hay fever and environmental irritation. It helps reduce hypersensitivity, supports the body’s natural resistance, and helps clear congestion in the sinuses and bronchi (airways).
Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) is rich in compounds that support the body in managing its histamine response, relieving irritation in the eyes and airways while providing nourishing vitamins and minerals.
Tissue Toning & Decongestion (Anti-catarrhal)
When seasonal sensitivity strikes, the body often produces excessive catarrh (mucus build-up). To help restore balance, our medical herbalists use astringent botanicals to gently tone irritated tissues and support the clearance of the respiratory pathways.
Eyebright (Euphrasia officinalis) has a special affinity for the eyes and upper respiratory tract. It acts as an astringent to support the body in resolving watery, itchy and sensitive eyes while clearing the congestion that leads to a runny nose or sinus pressure.
Peppermint (Mentha piperita) provides a refreshing, decongesting effect, helping to open constricted airways and support the body in maintaining clear respiratory passages.
Soothing & Protecting Mucous Membranes
When tissues become inflamed, they require protection. Our medical herbalists incorporate demulcent botanicals – herbs that form a soothing, protective layer over irritated mucous membranes.
Plantain is traditionally considered to be a powerful mucous membrane trophorestorative, rich in mucilage (a moistening, gummy substance) that coats and supports the irritated linings of the nose, throat and eyes. It is particularly helpful for relieving dry, irritable throat sensations and promoting effortless breathing.
Chamomile flowers (Matricaria recutita) are deeply calming and antispasmodic (they ease smooth muscle contractions). They help relax the bronchial tubes and reduce chest tightness often associated with seasonal coughs.
Elderflower (Sambucus Nigra) acts as a gentle decongestant and antimicrobial, helping to soothe inflamed airways and support the body in resolving the “heat” associated with seasonal skin or respiratory irritation
