Viagra Connect is a pharmacy medicine for erectile dysfunction in men aged 18 and over. Each film-coated tablet contains sildenafil 50mg (as sildenafil citrate). Pack options are 2, 4 or 8 tablets. Supply follows a pharmacist consultation and suitability check.
How to use
When suitable, take one tablet with water about one hour before sexual activity, no more than once in 24 hours. Sexual stimulation is needed. A heavy meal can delay the effect. Avoid grapefruit or grapefruit juice and large amounts of alcohol. Do not increase the dose if it does not work; discuss this with the pharmacist.
Do not take
- Do not use with nitrates, nitric oxide donors such as amyl nitrite (poppers), riociguat or ritonavir. Do not combine with other erectile-dysfunction treatments.
- Do not take if allergic to the ingredients, if you do not have erectile dysfunction, or if you are a woman or under 18.
- Do not use if sexual activity is inadvisable because of your heart condition, or with a heart attack or stroke in the past six months, very low blood pressure, severe liver disease, certain inherited retinal conditions or previous vision loss from NAION. The pharmacist must check the full list of exclusions.
Discuss with the pharmacist
Tell the pharmacist about all medicines, particularly alpha-blockers, other blood-pressure medicines, sacubitril/valsartan and medicines that alter sildenafil levels. Mention kidney or liver problems, heart symptoms or breathlessness on exertion, bleeding or stomach ulcers, penile deformity, sickle-cell disease, leukaemia or multiple myeloma. Arrange a doctor’s health check within the first six months of starting treatment because erectile dysfunction can reflect another condition.
Urgent symptoms, side effects and storage
Seek immediate help for chest pain; do not use nitrates to treat it and tell healthcare staff you have taken sildenafil. An erection lasting more than four hours, sudden loss of vision or hearing, or serious allergy requires urgent medical attention. Headache, flushing, indigestion, dizziness and visual changes can occur; do not drive if affected. Keep in the original blister, out of children’s sight and reach, and follow the supplied leaflet’s storage instructions.
